Gunhild Agger is Associate Professor of Communications at Aalborg University. She was a member of the «  Aesthetics of Television  » Research Program, financed by the Danish Research Council for the Humanities (1993-1998). She is co-editor with Jens F. Jensen of The Aesthetics of Television (Aalborg University Press, 1999), to which she has contributed «  Island Cop : An Analysis of Danish Police Fiction  » and «  National Cinema and TV Fiction in a Transnational Age  ».

Mette Hjort is Associate Professor of English and Intercultural Studies at Aalborg University. She is the author of The Strategy of Letters (Harvard University Press, 1993) and the editor of Rules and Conventions (The Johns Hopkins University Press, 1992). She has co-edited Emotion and the Arts (Oxford University Press, 1997) with Sue Laver, and is currently co-editing Cinema and Nation with Scott MacKenzie (Routledge, forthcoming).

Scott MacKenzie is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Glasgow University. His most recent articles have appeared in Public, Cinéaction and The Canadian Journal of Film Studies. He is co-editor, with Mette Hjort, of Cinema and Nation (Routledge, forthcoming). He is presently completing a book-length study of Québecois cinema, discourses of national identity and the alternative public sphere.

Adam Muller is Assistant Professor of English at the University of Manitoba, where he teaches and researches topics in cultural studies, literary criticism, American literature, and film. He is editor of Concepts of Culture, a look at the meaning of the term «  culture  » across the disciplines, and is currently writing a book on the role played by history in writing by white South Africans.

Bo Pettersson is Professor of the Literature of the United States in the Department of English, University of Helsinki. His publications include The World According to Kurt Vonnegut. Moral Paradox and Narrative Form (Åbo Akademi University Press, 1994) and he is currently working on the theory and practice of literary interpretation and of «  The New Aesthetics  ».

Trevor Ponech is Associate Professor of English at McGill University. He is the author of What is Non-Fiction Film? (Westview Press, 1999), a study of the nature of cinematic communication.

Other Contributions / Autres

Alan Bewell is Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. His primary interest is in the relationship between literature, science and medicine, particularly during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. His publications include -- «  Wordsworth and the Enlightenment : Nature, Man, and Society  » in the Experimental Poems (1989), and various essays on botany, obstetric theory, and medicine in romantic writing. His book Romanticism and Colonial Disease is forthcoming from the John Hopkins University Press.

Suzanne Foisy est professeure titulaire au département de philosophie de l'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. Membre depuis les débuts de la Société Canadienne d'Esthétique et du comité de rédaction de Æ, elle enseigne en esthétique moderne et contemporaine et a supervisé un numéro spécial de la revue Philosophiques sur «  Les critères esthétiques et la métamorphose du beau  »(Juin 1996).

Crispin Sartwell is Associate Professor of Humanities at Penn State University, the Capital College. He is the author of Act Like You Know: African-American Autobiography and White Identity (University of Chicago Press, 1998); Obscenity, Anarchy, Reality (SUNY 1995). He writes regularly for the opinion pages of the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Los Angeles Times.

Béla Szabados is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Regina. He is the author of In Light of Chaos (Thistledown), of many essays on self-deception and hypocrisy, as well as a regular contributor to Wittgenstein scholarship.

Attilio Taverna is a Venetian-born artist who studies economics (Ca' Foscari -- Venezia), art (Accademia di Belle Arti -- Venezia) and philosophy (Istituto di Lettere e Filosofia - Liviano -- Padova). He studies aesthetics with Prof. Dino Formaggio as well as at Istituto Antonio Banfi « Mauriziano » -- Reggio Emilia. He has directed a video («  Esperimento a,b,c  »), which was produced for Italian TV. Documentation on his works can be found in Florence (Goethe Institute). He has written a theoretical piece, entitled: «  Recognition for an Hypothesis of Forma  » ("Ricognizione per un'ipotesi di Forma", 1989).
