Smell, the underestimated sense...

Dr. Johannes Frasnelli

  • The Chemosensory Neuroanatomy Research Laboratory  (LRNACS) of the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières (UQTR) was created in 2015.

  • Our mission is to study the physiology, pathology and psychology of the senses that allow the perception of our chemical environment. Research therefore, focuses on smell, taste and the trigeminal system.

  • More specifically, we are interested in olfactory dysfunctions related to the following pathologies: Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, mild traumatic brain injury and  infections associated with COVID-19.

The activities of the LRNACS are carried out in two facilities:

  • The Trois-Rivières laboratory is located in the Anatomy Department of UQTR and is part of the Cognition, Neurosciences, Affect and Behavior (CogNAC) research group. This laboratory aims to understand the functioning of the chemical senses, i.e. smell and taste.

  • The Montreal lab is located at the Montreal Sacred Heart Hospital Research Center and is part of the Center for Advanced Studies in Sleep Medicine (CEAMS). This laboratory aims to understand the effects of different diseases on the chemical senses.
